Negative Advertising in the Media

Raunchy Advertising
Most Christians are concerned about popular culture because their minds are being conformed in dress, actions and ideas to the images of Hollywood idols such as Madonna, Michael Jackson and Beavis & Butthead, rather than to positive, moral images of virtuous men and women and, in particular, to the image of Jesus Christ. Christians should be concerned because the mass media of entertainment are among the most influential teachers of our generation. In the United States of America the average child sees 15,000 to 30,000 hours of television by the time he or she is seventeen years old. During this same period a child spends only 11,000 to 16,000 hours in school, and 2,000 hours or less of quality interaction with their parents. Many American children spend more time with a television set before the age of 6 than they will spend with their fathers during their lifetime. The Bible describes the devil as the originator of sin. We all know he stays very busy. He appears to have a large mental capacity and he can be anywhere in the blink of an eye. Yet the devil is not all-seeing nor is he omnipresent, so he requires others to do his work. Satan has found the liberal media makes for an effective tool for guiding and controlling society. The liberal media is the devil's best device for corrupting human society. The finger of blame is rarely ever pointed at the liberal media for society's misfortunes. This is such because the press is in charge of fixing the blame. Letting the liberal media decide if it's partly to blame for our country's moral decline is like putting tobacco companies in charge of finding out what causes lung cancer. Advertising is such a powerful tool that reaches so many people. Humans are bombarded by advertisements everywhere they look: television commercials, computer pop ups, billboards, Iphone apps, before youtube vidoes, listening to Pandora and so on to name a few.
