Project overview
JSPL is an industrial powerhouse with a dominant presence in steel, power, mining and infrastructure sectors. The company implemented the 2400 MW (4 x 600 MW) thermal power expansion project at Tamnar, Raigarh in Chhattisgarh at a cost of approx. Rs 13,000 crore.  All the four units were commissioned in a phased manner . JSPL Group's installed generation capacity in Raigarh belt reached 4,294 MW, thereby achieving ultra-mega power plant (UMPP) scale. The first unit of the 600 MW was commissioned in March 20142, Second in 2014 April, third unit in January 2015 and The 4th Unit of 600 MW was synchronized in April 2015. The Group's total installed capacity across the country now stands at 37.6 billion units of electricity annually, i.e. 3.58 per cent of India's electricity generation in 2014-15. The Engineering, procurement and construction contract was given to Bharat Heavy Electricals Asset characteristics

Bharat Heavy Electrical (BHEL) has provided the boiler turbine and generators The proposed plant will be set-up in two phases with the coal linkages for first phase of 1,200 MW from Coal India Ltd. For the second phase of 1,200 MW the company would be procuring coal from JSPL’s mines in Mozambique (Africa) till the domestic coal linkage is received

Raw-material risks due to absence of captive coal mines for this project; the raw-material risk is mitigated to an extent by the coal linkages that the company has secured. Sourcing of coal- facing higher input cost pressures due to higher import cost of fuel. JSPL has managed to hedge those effects by buying mines abroad, which would help them in difficult situations The Rs 13,500 crore expansion project got delayed by around one and a half years after the company failed to get the environment clearance from the ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) till November 2011. So permissions and grants The demand for Power in India is very much and it can’t be fulfilled easily. Population is growing and the demand is surging day by day. So, to capture some demand and to sustain India’s economic development Jindal power project is doing a great in this area. Indian economy is growing at a rate of 7% which make the project feasible for the long term and in future periods. The Company produces economical and efficient steel and power through backward and forward integration. From the widest flat products to a whole range of long products, the Company today has a product portfolio catering to markets across the steel value chain. Technological feasibility

The Company constructed a 258 km, 400 KV Double Circuit transmission line from the plant to the PGCIL sub-station at Raipur through which power could be sold anywhere in India. The fuel supply of the plant was met through captive coal mines. To transport coal between the mines and the plant, a 6.9 km conveyor pipeline was set up. For meeting the plant’s water requirement, an 18 m high dam over the Kurket River was built about 25 kms away from the project...
